Peinmore
House & Gardens
Since passing from Church ownership
into private hands in the 1930's Peinmore House has been extended
considerably. The main addition was a first floor 30
foot lounge aptly known as 'the long room'. Obviously built for entertaining
it boasts a wonderful American Oak floor and open fireplace. This is now the
residents lounge, an ideal place to relax with a complimentary glass of sherry
in the evening or a good book, of which there are lots around, during one of
Skye's occasional inclement days!
Peinmore is set in two acres of grounds divided roughly into three
distinct areas. The main feature is a large walled garden with its
own fast flowing stream running though. Sadly over the years it fell
into disrepair but it has now been cleared of debris, replanted with
new beds and new paths laid. This is an ongoing exciting project
but it is already repaying all the hard work. In a little World of
its own, its wonderfully sheltered position now provides a haven
for both birds and guests.
The courtyard around which Peinmore is built provides an attractive
link between the different parts of the house and has now been made
into a delightful garden - a lovely place to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
